“Fashion Deliver” – 1st Annual Cinderella’s Gala and Workshop

When “The Fashion Industry Delivers”, they really deliver. This partnership with non-profit organizations and the military provides free new evening gowns, dresses, suits, shoes,
WOW!
What every woman dreams for is to be able to go shopping, be pampered and leave feeling like a Queen for free. Fashion Delivers teamed up with Fort Meade Volunteer Community to host female soldiers, spouses and daughters for a magnificent day of pampering. Women were treated to sessions on dressing for your body type, which was presented by Executive Director of Mrs. & Miss International Pageants for Maryland and Virginia; Ciji Dodds, Miss Maryland Int’l. 2011 and Sandra Bryan-Grier, Mrs. Maryland Int’l. 2011.  The presentation focused on the four body types and what clothes looks best for each body type to heighten your positive areas and not bring attention to your not so positive areas. We used examples of clothes and accessories that would complement the various body types that were present. There were presentations on how to apply makeup, where to shop for the best deals and homemade makeup tips and how you can save money by making some of the items yourself.
We helped women select gowns, dresses, shoes and accessories along with helping them pose for the red carpet and posing for their before and after photos. As a military wife I know firsthand what kind of commitment and dedication is required to be the spouse of a service member or to be the daughter or mother. It was an honor to be of service to the women in the military who give of themselves and their loved ones to protect the freedoms we have every day. I am looking forward to being of service again in 2012 and can’t wait to try out some of the tips given on home made products and to check out some of the well kept secrets of sale days for local stores.

Cherry Blossom Gala Cruise

I was a Sponsor’s guest for the Cherry Blossom Dinner Cruise and enjoyed meeting all of the Dignitaries from India, Japan, Turkey and mostly the 2011 Goodwill Ambassadors. All of the 2011 Cherry Blossom Goodwill Ambassadors are students at local Universities who are majoring in International Relations. It was great to have an opportunity to speak with them about their experience and their future goals.

N Street Gala

Mrs. Maryland Sandra Bryan-Grier and Kenneth Grier

My husband and I attended the 2011 N Street Gala as a Sponsor’s guest.  N Street Village was founded in 1972 as a nonprofit organization in Washington D.C. to which provides empowerment, shelter and related support to homeless women. They have been instrumental in meeting the needs of women who need the level of support and encouragement that they would not be able to receive while homeless. The Gala recognized and honored Kathleen Sebelius – Secretary of Health and Human Services along with Wendy Mayer and Jane Saari who volunteers with the Village.
The three previous residents Camela, Renee and Carol who received awards well deserved because of their hard work and dedication to turning their life around and then paying it forward by now providing support to current residents of the Village. Congratulations to them and their families and to N Street Village for having such a positive impact on our communities and continuously making a difference in the lives of women in need.

Greater Washington Urban League Gala 2011

It was great to be a guest for the Greater Washington Urban League 2011 Gala. With this year's focus of "You, Me, We, DC" the gala highlighted the involvement of all the corporate partners and community organizations that make up Washington D.C. in a video presentation. The work of the GW Urban League is vital to community initiatives and supporting scholarships for well deserving students. The recipients covered a broad spectrum of students from different backgrounds and areas of study. It was great to see the brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi representing as host for the event and providing support for the League. Had a chance to meet the NBC Anchors Lindsay Czarniak and Craig Melvin. Looking forward to participating again next year.
